Pubs in Blackburn Pubs in Surrounding Area
There's only one independent brewery working in Blackburn
these days. It's still in the hands of the same family that established it
almost two hundred years ago. There's nothing I can tell you about it that
isn't available on it's site, except to confirm that it's cask ale, if properly
looked after, is excellent. That being the case, it's a bit of a shame about
the name of the URL. Follow the link below to find out more about it.
A minor point, but one that underlines the conflicts involved in my love
affair:- Up north, beer is drunk with a head on it. to this end, it's pulled
through a sparkler, which increases the pressure the beer is under as it
comes out of the tap. There's no doubt that beer served this way is more
pleasing to the eye. But, I have to admit, after several years of telling
Southerners that their beer was flat and lifeless, this method of serving
the stuff deprives it of its taste. I'm sorry, but it's true. Southerners
know how to drink beer, Northerners don't. Or is it just that despite nearly
eleven years of my trying to avoid it, the Southerners have managed to assimilate
me without my knowing?
