(Sorry about the image of myself as a background, but one of the main uses of the web is to feed egos)

I was born on March 20th 1958 in Blackburn, Lancashire. Since summer 1988 I have lived in Colchester in Essex, which is in the South East of England. I am a nurse for people with learning difficulties, a job I have done since March 1977. At the moment I work at Turner Village, which is an old-fashioned institution for such people. It is due to close by early autumn 2000, a date which I should think can't come quickly enough for the people who live there.

I am very fond of my home town, which is the reason for it being the main topic of my site, and I have supported the local football (soccer) team, Blackburn Rovers, for most of my life. Other sports I enjoy are cricket (team supported - Lancashire) and rugby league (team supported - Warrington). I also enjoy American football, supporting Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers. I take an interest in most other sports, but find basketball a pointless exercise.

Away from sports my main interests include travelling (when I can afford it), driving, politics (of a fairly left-wing variety), environmental issues, reading and real ale. My favourite author at the moment is Iain Banks. I am also very fond of Kurt Vonnegut, but I have to say that I found 'Timequake' a bit of a disappointment. I have been vegetarian since 1988, and would love to have the willpower to be a vegan.

If you find any of the above remotely interesting, feel free to e-mail me. I am one of those irritating people who have an opinion on most things, even those I know little about.
