In North East Lancashire, approximately 25 miles north of Manchester, which, to Lancastrians at least, is England's second city. The famous seaside resort of Blackpool, which currently has the tallest, steepest and fastest roller-coaster in Europe, is 25 miles away to the west. To the north and north east are the Yorkshire Dales, which provide the opportunity for caving and fell-walking in beautiful surroundings. Further north is the Lake District. Although certain areas, especially around Windermere are crammed with tourists during the summer, some of the lesser known lakes provide the opportunity for seclusion and the enjoyment of unspoilt lake and mountain countryside.
Blackburn is well served by the motorway network, although some recent additions have destroyedoutlying villages to the south, such as Tockholes (pronounced by the locals as 'Tockus').
Although it's well to the North West of England, Blackburn is close to the centre of the British mainland, making it relatively easy to reach anywhere else on the mainland.
